Ugandan national arrested for unlawful medical practice

A Ugandan national was arrested in Malelane in Mpumalanga for unlawfully practising as a medical doctor and

Abubakari Kaweesa performed illegal abortions for R700 per client and facing charges of the contravention of the health professional Act 56/1974, the choice on termination pregnancy Act 92/1996 as well as medicine Act 101/1996.

Kaweesa was arrested by the Hawks in partnership with the Health Professions Council of South Africa on Tuesday after it was discovered that he was a fake medical doctor.

On Wednesday he appeared at the Malelane Magistrate’s Court and the matter is set to return to court on Wednesday pending investigation.
