Despite advancing to the next round of the Nedbank Cup, Dan Malesela has warned his players from being too confident when they face teams from the lower divisions.
The Chilli Boys knocked out Witbank Spurs in the first round of the Nedbank Cup following a hard fought 1-0 win.
“We made life very difficult for ourselves. We could have cruised through this game. We did some childish errors and not committing to duties.
“We are too confident and we become presumptuous and you think we are done with this one. One day we will be surprised,” said Malesela.
The 51 year old also reflected on his side’s performance in the league. Malesela is as surprised as everyone at how a team like Chippa find themselves lying on the 8th spot on the league table.
The Port Elizabeth based outfit have only won five matches from 21 games, drew eight and lost eight.
However, Malesela believes his side only deserved to lose one game out of the eight they lost.
“I can point one game where I think we deserved to lose and that is Platinum Stars game. But all the other games you look and you ask yourself how did we lose this”.
“This has been the story of 2017 but I’m hoping that some sanity can come into the players heads, and realise what potential they have and go forward from then on”.
Malesela returned to the club on Monday after he was discharged from the hospital. He’d been admitted to a hospital in Port Elizabeth after he complained of chest pains which was later suspected to be a heart attack.
