Four suspects arrested for grave violation briefly appeared at the Makuya Periodical Court in Limpopo on Wednesday.
Provincial police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo said they were all remanded in custody until September, 20 for a formal bail application.
Elisa Nephawe (23) Nditsheni Colbert Nemasi (29) Mathadzhia Mushangi Munyani (20) and a traditional healer Avhapfani Nemugadi (42) are facing charges of violation of grave sites and ritual murders.
This is after cases of ritual murders, stealing of corpses and violation of graves in which body parts are found missing was reported.
“The police initially received information about some people dealing with human body parts in the area and subsequent investigations led them to some of the graves from the same cemetery that was possible violated,” said Mojapelo.
He said the exhumation process has been initiated and the first one was conducted last week in which the body of Alpheus Vhudzikadzika, who was buried in July 2016, was found without his head in one of the graves.
On Tuesday two suspect were arrested for the ritual murder of a 16-year-old Rhivandzu Manganye.
In July Manganye was found dead after she left home to relieve herself at the nearby bushes and never returned home.
“The police then launched intensive investigations that led to the arrest of two suspects, A 43-year-old Austine Nhuluvhe arrested in Givane and 42-year-old Kheyi Billy Chauke later arrested in Alexandra in Gauteng,” said Mojapelo.
Investigations are continuing and more arrests are expected to be made.
