The Portfolio Committee on Communications have concluded the process of interviewing candidates for the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) Council.
The Committee interviewed 13 candidates after it had shortlisted 15 candidates on 25 August. Prof Onkaetse Mmusi and Themba Phiri withdrew their applications which reduced the number of candidates to 13.
Members of the Committee posed questions on various issues relating to regulation, governance, legislation, ethics, broadcast licenses, digital migration and challenges that may be faced by ICASA councillors in executing their fiduciary duties.
The Committee will deliberate on the interviews and recommend the successful candidates to the National Assembly for adoption.
